A growing demand for up to date and easily accessible information on Costa Rica’s flora and fauna motivated the National Institute of Biodiversity (INBio) to create electronic publications about species and to include them in its web page.
These publications present, in a user-friendly format, information about the country’s species.
As a result of that experience, and as a contribution to regional efforts to know, protect and use the area’s natural wealth in a sustainable manner, the first Central American publications were created in 2004. They include information on the mammal species found in the region.
The systematization and updating of data on mammal species was the result of a collaborative effort by experts from all the Central American countries, with the support of the Government of Norway, which made possible its design and publication.
